Unsere Fremden

Unsere Fremden is a continuing story about those among us that we often fail to notice. The strangers (Fremden) in our community who occupy the news reports as number and statistics, but whose personal stories rarely occupy our minds.

The short film produced during pandemic is the starting point for the new music theatre UNSERE FREMDEN by Mischa Tangian who this time invites the transcultural group of Babylon ORCHESTRA and singers/musicians from Algeria, Morrocco, Syria, Greece, Turkey and Germany to create a new show which combines theatre, opera and film to give an intriguing view of migrant life in Europe.

The tale of three characters, Sarah, Aziz and Hala whose lives collide with the fictional person of Josek K. in a fragmented history based on motives of Kafka’s “Trial” within the burocratic nightmare of European Union institutions and absurd situations of injustice.

Touching on subjects of discrimination, institutional racism, migration and discrimination amongst migrants - we dive into a an unknown world of hidden pain, surprises and violence - verbal and physical - which is expressed in a driving music theatre intended as a first instalment of a series of music theatre works about cultural origins, diversity, transculturalism and social questions concerning globalisation, exploitation of minorities and foreigners, patriarchy and modern colonialism.
